Chromahora Privacy Policy

Effective September 28, 2026

The short version:

Who we are

Chromahora is an iOS app by Aidan Follestad (“we”, “us”). It shows photographers when blue hour and golden hour happen on a given day. This policy explains what information the app uses, where it goes, and the choices you have.

Location

Chromahora asks for permission to use your location only while you’re using the app, and asks for approximate location by default. You can change this at any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services › Chromahora.

Services the app contacts

To show sun times and weather, Chromahora sends requests directly from your device to the two services below, over encrypted HTTPS connections. We don’t run any servers, so none of this passes through us.

ServiceWhat it’s sentWhy
sunrise-sunset.org Your rounded location, a range of dates, and your device’s time zone Sunrise, sunset, golden hour and blue hour times
Apple Weather (WeatherKit) Your rounded location and a range of dates Hourly forecasts of clouds, fog, rain and snow

Like any website or online service, these services can see your device’s IP address when the app contacts them. Their own privacy policies govern how they handle requests: see Apple’s Privacy Policy for Apple Weather, and sunrise-sunset.org for theirs. Neither service receives your name, contact details, or any identifier from the app.

What’s stored on your device

Chromahora keeps a small amount of data on your device so it can open quickly and work offline:

This data isn’t synced, backed up to our servers, or shared with anyone. Deleting Chromahora removes all of it.

What we don’t do

If you choose to share diagnostics with app developers in your device’s settings, Apple may provide us with anonymous crash reports and usage statistics. Apple controls that sharing, and you can turn it off in Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements.

Children

Chromahora isn’t directed at children, and it doesn’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.

Open source

Chromahora’s source code is public on GitHub, so you can check for yourself exactly what the app does with your data.

Changes to this policy

If the way Chromahora handles data changes, we’ll update this page and its effective date before the change reaches the app.
